Almost every complaint we hear about a couch, from any manufacturer, comes back to size. Not quality, not fabric. Size. The piece is too deep for the room, or it blocks a doorway, or it looked fine in a photograph and swallowed the lounge in real life. Five minutes with a tape measure prevents all of it.

Measure the wall, then subtract

Start with the wall the couch will sit against and write down the full length. Then subtract anything that eats into it: a plug point you need to reach, a door that swings inward, the skirting of a built-in unit. What is left is your usable length, and your couch should be at least 30cm shorter than that so the room does not look packed.

Walkways matter more than people expect

Leave 75cm to 90cm between the couch and a coffee table or wall for a comfortable walkway. Below 60cm people start turning sideways to get past, which is the moment a lounge stops feeling relaxed. In an L-shape layout, check the walkway on the chaise side specifically, because that is where it usually goes wrong.

Depth is what makes a couch comfortable

A seat depth around 55cm to 60cm suits most adults. Deeper than that and shorter people cannot put their feet on the floor without cushions behind them. Our standard depths sit in that range, and we adjust on request when a customer wants something loungier or more upright.

Check the route, not just the room

Measure the narrowest doorway, the turn at the top of the stairs and the lift if there is one. Our large suites travel in sections for exactly this reason, but knowing the numbers up front means we can build accordingly rather than improvising on the day.

Write it down and send it

Wall length, usable length, doorway width, ceiling height if there is a staircase turn. Send those four numbers to us on WhatsApp with a photo of the room and we will tell you which pieces fit and which will crowd you.

Send us the room measurements and a photograph. We would rather talk you out of the wrong couch than deliver it.
