A Chesterfield earns its place in a room. The scroll arms sit level with the back, the buttoning pulls the velvet into a diamond grid, and the whole piece has a weight to it that flat-pack furniture never gets close to.
Ours is built on a serpentine spring base rather than a plain board, so the seat gives slightly and then supports you. The buttons are tufted by hand and tied off at the back of the frame, which is the only way to keep the diamonds even across a two-metre span.
